I went to a Home Show and here’s what I found…
It’s been over 20 years since I went to a Home and Garden Show, but with projects always looming at my house, I thought it was a good idea to check out products, vendors and contractors in my area. There were two Home Shows on the same weekend in Indianapolis, and I decided to attend the Suburban Home and Garden Show at Grand Park in Westfield, Indiana. It was $5 for the online ticket and no parking fees.
Home Shows are filled with sales reps, so if you don’t like talking to people, it can be hard to talk to strangers, but you could take an outgoing person along for the ride to make up for your introverted nature. Perhaps that’s why they served some alcohol there, to loosen everyone up. Just know that vendors are looking for leads, but they generally aren’t too pushy as they have loads of people coming to their booths and you don’t have to approach a booth that you aren’t interested in seeing. Or you can just grab a business card off their table and decide if you want to give them a call for estimates later.
Here’s a list of vendor categories:
artist/crafter/handmade products, awnings/louvered roof systems, basement remodels/foundation and waterproofing, bath/body and candles, bathroom installations and remodeling, beds/bedding/mattresses, books, boutique, cleaning products, concrete leveling/products and services, curtains/blinds/upholstery, decks/deck sealing, fine food/beverages, fire features, floor coating systems, flooring, indoor/outdoor furnitures, garage organizers and doors, garden and home accessories, gutters/rain catchment systems, handyman services, health/wellness, home builders/design, home organization, home security, jewelry, kitchen accessories/remodels/installations, landscape/hardscape, lawn/turf services, indoor/outdoor lighting, mortgage/real estate/insurance, not-for-profit organizations, outdoor living spaces and structures, painting, pest control, pet products/services, plant market, pools/spas/saunas, publications, recreation/entertainment, roofing/siding, windows, solar options, sunrooms/patio covers/enclosures, tree and shrub care, water conditioning, water features, wine/beer/spirits, woodcrafting.
After going through the whole 200 + vendors, I went back to the places that caught my eye: junk removal, garage floor remodeling, a local indoor plant vendor and a cleaning supply company. The cleaning supply company really surprised me the most as I’ve never heard of it. Norwex microfiber cloths and cleaning supplies. I spoke with an independent consultant to learn about why they are so special and here’s what she told me about the Norwex microfiber cloths.
Norwex microfiber is 1/200th the size of a human hair whereas other microfibers are only 1/6th the width, so this means their microfibers pick up and hold more germs, dust and grime than others, so much that you don’t have to use any cleaners to remove 99% of germs on surfaces. She also showed me the duster glove that is activated with a static brush to ensure that dust doesn’t go flying everywhere when in use. The counter cloths are embedded with silver strands to ensure bacteria doesn’t grow on them much like a natural “microban.”
When I asked her how I could get a hold of these products, she said they have independent consultants holding home parties, online parties or a website that sells all their products. I was really surprised by the home party angle at cleaning products. During Covid, they relied on online parties, some using zoom and others just by online referrals to friends to buy the products with special ‘party’ deals. I know a cleaning party sounds a bit weird, but I know plenty of people who like to clean and have a clean home and don’t want to use smelly and sometimes toxic cleaners.
I went to their website and all the environmental reasons to use Norwex are reasonable and common knowledge at this point. The evils of plastics, artificial chemicals in detergents and the residue left behind from cleaners that can spread to foods.
People used a lot of Lysol during Covid, but now I think people are going back to more natural cleaners. So will the high priced cleaning cloths be worth it? What will the party entail? Will the consultant clean my house for me during the demo? Will my friends and relatives want to come to this particular party or will they be offended by me inviting them to a party to learn more about cleaning their homes? Well, stay tuned to find out about the results of the party and my review of the Norwex products.
Part Two of the Home Show experience will come out this Spring, along with my Spring Cleaning tips and to-do list. Please refer a friend to the LyvLyfe Newsletter page on Facebook or the Newsletter homepage.
